<br />
Hi, all! I'm sorry we dropped off the face of the blogosphere without a warning. Life got a bit crazy for both Gretchen and me. We had to make the difficult decision to move on from DSSP to focus on higher priorities! I hope you've enjoyed this blog and that we'll meet up again in the future. We've enjoyed sharing our passions with you!<br />
<br />
Take care and party on!Heather Vohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06640519968946443312noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6509257129164037598.post-81097896759875348502012-01-05T06:00:00.000-07:002012-01-05T06:00:13.326-07:00Top 10 of 2011<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I love all these roundup posts I’ve been seeing this week! <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Hope you are enjoying the holiday break. Just in case you missed it I thought we'd share a guest post we did at <a href="http://www.thecsiproject.com/">The CSI Project</a> last week. With the winter theme, these would still be cute for a New Year's party! Or use the recipe cards to attach to baked good gifts! Have a great New Year's and see you back here next week!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Hi there! Heather here from <a href="http://www.didsomeonesaypartysite.com/">Did Someone Say Party</a> and I’m thrilled to be back with you today to share some fun ideas for a Cookie Exchange! We have a great gang of girls that have a cookie exchange every year, so this is one of our favorite holiday traditions! Today we are sharing some free printables to add a special and simple touch to your cookie exchange!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">I love to discover new baking recipes, which is one of my most favorite parts of a cookie exchange. Email your guests this sweet recipe card printable in advance of the party. They can print it out on cardstock to write in the recipe and make copies for everyone to bring with them to the party! </span><br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-ZeQ2TGON3aw/TubcOhIbqBI/AAAAAAAAC1Q/882lkkS3z_A/s1600-h/Cookie%252520Exchange-1-6%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><img alt="Cookie Exchange-1-6" border="0" height="321" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-1N6Zo6sWxC0/TubcPHraaLI/AAAAAAAAC1Y/iOwdgMchu2Q/Cookie%252520Exchange-1-6_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Cookie Exchange-1-6" width="468" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Make sure to download the <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/?6meyak45b857u6x">front</a> and <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/?21ugbj2722q3uoe">back</a> pages. The back page is setup so if you print them double sided the two sides line up to have extra room to continue the recipe instructions! Click the images below to download.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">I am in love with unique gift wrapping ideas. In fact I have a whole <a href="http://pinterest.com/heatherv/gift-it/">giant crazy pinterest board</a> dedicated to it! So I was excited when I discovered these simple dishcloths at Ikea for $0.79. Yep, less than $1.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">They are nice and large, which is perfect for wrapping a nice little box. They are also perfect to use in place of tissue.</span><br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-5CODo5ppGnE/Tu6vWXI62bI/AAAAAAAAC5s/vvMxJ1BlopU/s1600-h/Ornament-1-11%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><img alt="Ornament-1-11" border="0" height="396" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-vJ-OlIfhWZA/Tu6vWpoOKOI/AAAAAAAAC50/UkBj_ziPyFQ/Ornament-1-11_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Ornament-1-11" width="261" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">By the way, have you seen the Christmas gift bags in the Dollar Spot at Target this season? So cute!! That means this gift’s wrapping cost $1.79, and about 2.5 seconds. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">At our annual cookie exchange/handmade gift exchange, I brought some handmade ornaments (some of the <a href="http://www.didsomeonesaypartysite.com/2011/12/mini-wreath-challenge-hs-ornaments.html">mini-wreath ones</a> and a <a href="http://www.didsomeonesaypartysite.com/2011/12/button-ornaments.html">button ornament</a>). I packaged them up in a little hobo sack made from the dishcloth. I tied it closed with a green yarn pom, a jingle bell looped on some of my favorite baker’s twine and a punched tag with a stamped sentiment. </span><br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-A_0G54Pqmck/Tu6vXVu2vPI/AAAAAAAAC58/eUgP7KUS6bs/s1600-h/IMG_4271-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_4271-1" border="0" height="273" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-tWfGHUhZN_E/Tu6vXuMYvBI/AAAAAAAAC6E/fur_sGavxoA/IMG_4271-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_4271-1" width="398" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">I am headed back to IKEA this week to grab a dozen more. I love them so much – it’s like a bonus gift for your recipient, not to mention a very green way to wrap! And the price really can’t be beat!</span><br />

Giving food gifts is a wonderful way to give inexpensive handmade gifts with much less time investment – you can easily make bulk items that you can give to many people in no more time than it takes to make one gift.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">This year I made a homemade popcorn mix to give our neighbors, the mailman, the milkman, teachers at my son’s school and other friends. It is ridiculously addictive and super easy to make in a big batch. </span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Popcorn</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Ingredients:</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">1-1/2 Cups Popcorn Kernels (yields about 9 cups popped) <br />2-16 oz packages of white chocolate chips melted <br />1/2 cup peanut butter chips <br />1/2 cup dark chocolate chips (or bar chocolate – I used TJ’s) <br />Salt</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Pretzels <br />Holiday M&Ms (I used a bag of peanut butter and a bag of pretzel)</span><br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Directions:</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">1. Pop your popcorn. Did you know you can make popcorn in the microwave with just a brown paper lunch bag? SO EASY! I don’t have a popper, so I used <a href="http://www.squawkfox.com/2010/07/27/popcorn-recipe-gourmet-popcorn/">these instructions</a> and made three batches. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">2. Spread the popcorn out on baking sheets. Salt the popcorn and sprinkle the pretzels in.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">3. Melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave or a double boiler.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">4. Drizzle the white chocolate over the popcorn pretzel mix. Toss if needed to get even coverage.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">5. Sprinkle the M&Ms over the white chocolate covered mixture. </span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Instead of just giving them in little baggies or plastic wrap, I used these cute little peppermint striped gabled boxes at Target. They are so cute and have little plastic windows to give a peek at the yummy contents. And the best part? They are from the Dollar Spot!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I tied them closed with some pre-printed ribbon I purchased from <a href="http://www.pickyourplum.com/?a=14765">Pick Your Plum</a> – no gift tag needed. Of course we may have taste tested a little bit too!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">This made about 12-15 sandwich bags worth of goodies. We had our cookie exchange last week and I made these delicious Nutella and Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites!</span><br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-av7621TnI5g/Tu66w5TTDDI/AAAAAAAAC8U/z6pDqUty4qQ/s1600-h/Ornament-1-10%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="Ornament-1-10" border="0" height="272" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-b-AYUwPfh7E/Tu66xLbgY1I/AAAAAAAAC8c/7z7MPdSb8C8/Ornament-1-10_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Ornament-1-10" width="396" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I followed <a href="http://bunsinmyoven.com/2010/10/24/peanut-butter-pretzel-bites/">the recipe from Buns in My Oven</a>, but added my own little twist. I swirled half a cup of Nutella (because everything is better with Nutella) in with the peanut butter mixture. Then after I dunked the pretzel sandwiches in melted <u>dark</u> chocolate, I sprinkled a little sea salt on some of them before the chocolate dried. YUM!!</span><br />

When her teenaged son was little, she would make all sorts of crafts and sell them at fairs (</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">in addition to being a full time working mom)</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">. I still have a bunch of her beautiful wares in my home, including our most favorite – a felt stuffed turkey for Thanksgiving! </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">We decided that it would be fun to work together on some crafts throughout the year together. We planned to pick a source of inspiration, then each would do their own thing and compare.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Last month, I chose <a href="http://maximumrabbitdesigns.blogspot.com/2008/11/christmas-button-tree.html">this button tree by Maximum Rabbit Designs</a> (LOVE!!) as our inspiration!</span><br />
<a href="http://maximumrabbitdesigns.blogspot.com/2008/11/christmas-button-tree.html"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="image" border="0" height="343" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-uU_5Jct8xYw/TuYHSlJY3DI/AAAAAAAACyw/MyaCzhXdxsE/image%25255B5%25255D.png?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="image" width="254" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I have to admit, I’m a bit of a lazy crafter. Or maybe just an impatient one? But the idea of filling an entire styrofoam tree with buttons sounded like a BIG time commitment. Then I remembered those cute paper flower pomander balls (<a href="http://www.didsomeonesaypartysite.com/2011/05/summer-tree-and-tutorial.html">check out G’s super cute ones here</a>) and decided to make ornaments instead. I found <a href="http://www.buttoncandy.org/?p=846">this inspiration</a> via Pinterest and set out making my ornaments. So easy!</span><br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-xdv5-FuGwKY/TuYHTY7JdUI/AAAAAAAACy4/DNS1_cGXuBY/s1600-h/IMG_4213-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_4213-1" border="0" height="303" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-SpMVhEr-tHM/TuYHT7vGZkI/AAAAAAAACzA/GseSHTWcLEw/IMG_4213-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_4213-1" width="442" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I picked up pearl tipped pins in red, pearl and white and buttons in lime green, red and pearl. Most of the buttons I had on hand, but these need a LOT of buttons so I had to supplement. Then I filled in the balls – so easy! I attached some ribbon with pins for the loops and was done! These were fast, and definitely easy to do while my preschooler was working on his own crafts!</span><br />

There was something about whipping up little ornaments in 5 minutes that made me go slightly overboard and I loved every minute!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I started trying to replicate this great wreath ornament my sister made. But alas, our wreaths were thicker and they just didn’t look quite as cute as hers!!<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-XFq5dfFCHQI/TubnX_1RNeI/AAAAAAAAC24/l4etYBOthss/s1600-h/Ornament-1-2%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Ornament-1-2" border="0" height="258" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-1VT63Zvkzs4/TubnYJ9OzkI/AAAAAAAAC3A/sUeY_tco74U/Ornament-1-2_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Ornament-1-2" width="375" /></a></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">But that didn’t stop me! You probably already realize that I’m a crazy craft supply shopper – more so than a crafter. So it was fun to shop from my stash to create these little goodies! Here’s what I came up with!</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-0t9TetfMPlc/TubnYqe9TiI/AAAAAAAAC3I/wXwYsHvx_zc/s1600-h/Handmade%252520Ornament%2525201-2%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Handmade Ornament 1-2" border="0" height="172" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-uhgE1OsID4Q/TubnZCCYT3I/AAAAAAAAC3Q/9Im2O3vrg2w/Handmade%252520Ornament%2525201-2_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Handmade Ornament 1-2" width="167" /></a><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/--69JBwrkUkA/TubnZ6k7eNI/AAAAAAAAC3Y/bJmtC5ojM7Q/s1600-h/Handmade%252520Ornament%2525207%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Handmade Ornament 7" border="0" height="173" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-usUFx-W0MVA/TubnaE5pSFI/AAAAAAAAC3g/GIaL2Y-H918/Handmade%252520Ornament%2525207_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Handmade Ornament 7" width="164" /></a><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-tTUGfp2tqgg/TubnajyyPGI/AAAAAAAAC3o/NrTFZsa5uJk/s1600-h/Handmade%252520Ornament%2525202%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Handmade Ornament 2" border="0" height="172" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-KhGiAkAuc3o/TubnbAGT6FI/AAAAAAAAC3w/GHiNtCvbwqc/Handmade%252520Ornament%2525202_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Handmade Ornament 2" width="176" /></a></span></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">1. This one used some great lace hem tape (you can find it near the ricrac and bias tape!). I just wrapped it around to cover the wreath. Then with a rhinestone brad to attach doily cut with my favorite punch! </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br />2. On this wreath I used some beautiful ribbon from American Crafts to wrap my wreath. Then I repurposed a charm that came on a candle I received as a gift. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br />3. This wreath I did buy for - I picked up some mini-bead garland at JoAnns and wrapped it around the wreath. Then I used hot glue to adorn some mini cabochon flowers. I used the hem tape from the first ornament to create the hanger.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ZogGtxPbAxI/Tubnbqdy-WI/AAAAAAAAC34/MmCi0aAD_hc/s1600-h/Handmade%252520Ornament%2525203%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Handmade Ornament 3" border="0" height="270" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-oCbjfRyBIwo/TubncCZXfiI/AAAAAAAAC4A/jkjxz7SC5es/Handmade%252520Ornament%2525203_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Handmade Ornament 3" width="269" /></a><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-EPwaJSIQfIc/Tubnc35c-nI/AAAAAAAAC4I/gZwtlpswmTg/s1600-h/Handmade%252520Ornament%2525206%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Handmade Ornament 6" border="0" height="272" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-FZFGpw2Zhn8/TubndHV4hfI/AAAAAAAAC4Q/EzNxWCYix84/Handmade%252520Ornament%2525206_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Handmade Ornament 6" width="269" /></a></span></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">4. I followed the larger thumbtack concept with this one, using simple silver thumbtacks to cover the base of the wreath. Then I used some colored thumbtacks to add a little decoration. This one is HEAVY! </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br />5. Using my favorite red and white baker’s twine, I wrapped this wreath like a yarn wreath. Then I attached some cute green buttons and a plaid ribbon for a hanger.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">These last two are my favorites!</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-6SiUV0JJ1tg/Tubnd4ot9oI/AAAAAAAAC4Y/VPLF4yhNXps/s1600-h/Handmade%252520Ornament%2525205%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Handmade Ornament 5" border="0" height="266" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-kVRVnWv3U7A/TubneE6ZdiI/AAAAAAAAC4g/cI7lRIuV7vM/Handmade%252520Ornament%2525205_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Handmade Ornament 5" width="275" /></a><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/--iKWKkM0RPE/Tubne0Ul_TI/AAAAAAAAC4o/zyQc_bNPGAg/s1600-h/Handmade%252520Ornament%2525204%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Handmade Ornament 4" border="0" height="267" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-t5NGXgtWLMQ/TubnfNZIwQI/AAAAAAAAC4w/QMtChYS9bB4/Handmade%252520Ornament%2525204_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Handmade Ornament 4" width="271" /></a></span></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">6. Once I realized my rag wreath was a failure, I took off the strips of fabric and wrapped them all the way around the wreath, leaving the rough tattered edges exposed. Then I attached three small jingle bells and some small felt leaves I freehand cut. Cute! </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br />7. I used my favorite fuzzy yarn on this simple yarn wreath. Then I pulled out my scrapbooking supplies to adorn it with three rhinestone star brads and a fabric word tag. I used simple jute to create the hanger on this one!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">So much fun! Among the many things we chatted about, we decided to do a mini wreath challenge in December. Here's the big reveal for my wreaths. Now - I wanted this to do double duty for my <a href="http://www.didsomeonesaypartysite.com/2011/05/summer-tree-and-tutorial.html">Year of the Tree</a> event (which has desperately fallen behind - but I shall continue throughout 2012!) so the ornaments had to coordinate. I definitely went more "Martha" than Heather did with her mini wreaths (stay tuned tomorrow for her GORGEOUS array of creative awesomeness), keeping mine all in the same make and color scheme. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-mag9YM13F6s/Tt0KZ5Eit-I/AAAAAAAACwA/vHMPls2-Wcw/s1600-h/IMG_1111%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_1111" border="0" height="272" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-I8jkbaoLigI/Tt0KaUaROAI/AAAAAAAACwI/nRUzDNBXjd8/IMG_1111_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_1111" width="396" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I started with mini wreath forms - I got them <a href="http://factorydirectcraft.com/index.php">here</a>. Then I just wrapped shades of green, thick and nubby yarn around until it was covered. I hot glued it to keep the yarn in place. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-3Tvk5-V25Uo/TuYIf_2MKkI/AAAAAAAAC0w/qdKnNhvFUrs/s1600-h/IMG_4227-1%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_4227-1" border="0" height="270" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-PK8jmCNlKnQ/TuYIgVEns6I/AAAAAAAAC04/Xs_-L66ifig/IMG_4227-1_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_4227-1" width="386" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0000ee; font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><u><br /></u></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Next, I dug out some tiny red glass ornaments that I bought on sale a few years ago when Smith & Hawken had a Christmas clearance event. I used wired cutters to clip off the hook part and then simply stuck the sharp wire end into the styrofoam and secured the "berry" with a little hot glue. You could use any red beads you pick up from the store - they're everywhere!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0000ee;"><u><br /></u></span><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-xv1AqigYW-g/Tt0KbrXpA0I/AAAAAAAACwg/1gYUuyREaA0/s1600-h/IMG_1123%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_1123" border="0" height="271" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-cvejUmEk9ZA/Tt0Kb5-6ANI/AAAAAAAACwo/5sxnKYB8hFg/IMG_1123_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_1123" width="395" /></a></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />

He is beyond thrilled to receive a treat from a friend, so I love sharing that joy with his classmates! Last year after Christmas I lucked out and found lots of little treasures at Walmart that I picked up for half off. So I needed a cute little vessel to hold them. This is an easy project that your little ones can even help with!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-7T6z1UMPbzA/TuYFgubKCuI/AAAAAAAACxA/tOcfcw2mdMk/s1600-h/IMG_4189-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_4189-1" border="0" height="250" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-p_DBKtmANRw/TuYFhNV7aOI/AAAAAAAACxI/JlIi4kjLwp8/IMG_4189-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_4189-1" width="364" /></span></a><br />
<strong><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Supplies:</span></strong><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Mini Canvas Bags <br />Any holiday stamps and/or alphabet stamps <br />Red Ink (I used <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Tsukineko-Full-Size-StazOn-Multi-Surface-Blazing/dp/B0013JLEBG/ref=sr_1_1?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1323697436&sr=1-1">Staz on</a>)</span><br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-3RGv0aKJgaM/TuYFh2aolUI/AAAAAAAACxQ/kaWQkL-CNdQ/s1600-h/IMG_4191-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_4191-1" border="0" height="256" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-j_w0XFaFLS8/TuYFiO1QTXI/AAAAAAAACxY/ueeKJCSskyE/IMG_4191-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_4191-1" width="373" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I purchased my little canvas bags from <a href="http://www.pickyourplum.com/?a=14765">Pick Your Plum</a> at a great deal! If you haven’t checked them out before, they are a great resource for discount craft supplies. There is one new deal every day and you have to get it before it sells out. (In full disclosure, they are an affiliate. However, I’m also a frequent customer!).</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Since that deal is no longer available, I’d highly recommend purchasing <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/75913978/collection-of-5-natural-rustic-eco">some from the i love it all shop</a>! Monika is fabulous to work with and has such high quality products! I’ve purchased some of her mini albums/journals before and LOVE them. She’s always super fast at shipping too!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">This is a super easy project – simply stamp right on the canvas bags! I used a holiday stamp on each side, with my son’s name also on one side. He can write his name but keeping him focused and writing it 20 times for the kiddos is a bit challenging. I like to save that for Grandma and those that will appreciate it more. :)</span><br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-N9bRlt9pK2I/TuYFjJg_O9I/AAAAAAAACxg/zLw3De4ub4k/s1600-h/IMG_4185-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_4185-1" border="0" height="261" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-G0D5sYRfX3o/TuYFjY696ZI/AAAAAAAACxo/2m3h9dasU-s/IMG_4185-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_4185-1" width="380" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">This would also work with the <a href="http://www.didsomeonesaypartysite.com/2011/04/teacher-appreciation-gifts.html">subway sign approach I took on these treat bags here</a>!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Notice how easy it was to stamp his name with the alphabet stamps (<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Success-Handle-Antique-Typewriter-Alphabet/dp/B000S10OZM/ref=sr_1_2?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1323697408&sr=1-2">these are the ones I used</a>)? I simply placed a rubberband around the letters I needed to hold them together so I wouldn’t have to stamp each letter separately. I saw this genius idea on Pinterest (I apologize – I can’t find the link!).</span><br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-VE20ipAUYlg/TuYFkASZRqI/AAAAAAAACxw/HiCDwlgYGiE/s1600-h/IMG_4192-1%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_4192-1" border="0" height="253" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-gJyLeNc9SL4/TuYFkd2zeYI/AAAAAAAACx4/KudPyFZjv9A/IMG_4192-1_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_4192-1" width="362" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">The treats easily fit inside and are all ready to hand out – yay, one more item off my holiday to-do list!</span><br />
<div align="center">
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-MKk1__i5rfE/TuYFlNomZTI/AAAAAAAACyA/q0L7H-1C9cQ/s1600-h/IMG_4184-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_4184-1" border="0" height="255" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-OiCnc0vKkZg/TuYFliJZbgI/AAAAAAAACyI/hUdmca23Ras/IMG_4184-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_4184-1" width="372" /></span></a></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">By the way, I made a few extra because I realized they’d make for perfectly cute gift card holders. Perfect for his teachers and teenaged cousins!</span><br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-PrganuHBvwg/TuYFmA_n5tI/AAAAAAAACyQ/No_iNIjuTM4/s1600-h/IMG_4195-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_4195-1" border="0" height="262" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-bISavUnW1ls/TuYFmm6KdmI/AAAAAAAACyY/0jjjdjhCL4E/IMG_4195-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_4195-1" width="381" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">These would also make great little favor bags. Have you ever stamped on canvas? It’s a bit addicting – I can’t wait to make another project!</span><br />

I’m not sure what my obsession is these days – apparently I have cheesecake on the brain! These are literally bite-sized versions of the lovely dessert. They are the perfect gift for teachers, coworkers and neighbors. Why not make them in a large batch and knock out a bunch of handmade gifts at once? You may recall the shower I threw for my sister in law this summer. Well after the little guy was born, it was killing me that I wasn’t there to cook them up a batch of meals or bring over dinner when I knew they’d had a rough day. She did a lot of that for us when our son was born, but moved out of state a few years ago, so I couldn’t return the favor with their newborn.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">So I decided to ship them an unconventional care package. I picked a bunch of gift jar food recipes and went to work. I mixed up three dried soup recipes, one blondie recipe, and then made some cookies to put in the last jar. </span><br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-GdqsVeyBhoU/Trtc8ZU8UWI/AAAAAAAACmo/SPw1alErxHY/s1600-h/Food%252520Jars-3584%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><img alt="Food Jars-3584" border="0" height="370" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-q7R7qZQttpo/Trtc9ASvBdI/AAAAAAAACmw/SwzT9Ul3O78/Food%252520Jars-3584_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Food Jars-3584" width="540" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">I wanted to make them cute of course – a little gift to unwrap! So before I wrapped them in bubble wrap galore, I used a square of fabric over the top lid and screwed the jar lid over the top (disregard the mismatched rings – I recycled these jars from the amazing pickles my parents can every year!!). Then I printed the recipe cards and attached them to the jar with bakers twine as inspired by <a href="http://bakedbree.com/toffee-blondies-week-4-of-12-weeks-of-cookies">this post from Baked Bree</a>. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">The cookies were a little more challenging since I didn’t want it to end up one giant cookie glob upon arrival. I used some plain cupcake liners to separate the cookies and packed them in well. I hear some of the cookies came out crumbled on the other side, but they just dumped those crumbs over ice cream!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Yum! If you are interested in giving some food gifts this holiday season, here are the recipes I used. Enjoy!</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">The cookie recipe I used was the Chocolate <a href="http://picky-palate.com/2011/08/01/chocolate-chunk-peanut-butter-swirl-fudgy-cookies/">Chunk Peanut Butter Swirl Fudgy Cookies from Picky Palate</a> – and they were DELISH!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">I’m curious – have you ever given soup or baking mixes in a jar like this? Do you have some favorite recipes? Link them up in <a href="http://www.didsomeonesaypartysite.com/2011/11/handmade-gifts-novembers-craft-party.html">our craft party</a> – I’d love to see them!</span><br />

Yet something about these cute little turkeys in today’s roundup are getting me excited about the holiday again!</span><br />

Don’t get me wrong – I’m a HUGE dessert fan! Just something about pie is just, well, not worth the calories to me if I’m going to invest in dessert! That also means that I don’t have a clue how to make a decent pie, and I’m not really interested in giving it a shot. It’s hard to convince yourself to invest the time if you aren’t going to invest the calories. :)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">We are headed out of town to stay with our sis and brother in law and their new baby (yay!!) so I’m planning to cook us a Thanksgiving dinner that is low key, since inevitably we’ll all be distracted by the newborn or my three year old! <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">This project was born out of two things - having too many vases from floral deliveries (I know, woe is me) and too many pinecones collected by my 3 year old. Somehow those two things culminated in a simple craft that makes a lovely piece of fall décor - or even an easy Thanksgiving centerpiece!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I’m one lucky girl in that my hubby sends flowers to me at the office on a regular basis. Definitely one of the many bonuses of being married to him. I noticed the last two bouquets were sent in matching glass vases, so I decided to take advantage of this strange occurrence and make a lovely piece of fall décor to display the treasures my three year old likes to collect on our walks through our neighborhood. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">This really couldn’t be more simple. If you are lucky like me you’ll already have all the supplies on hand!</span><br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-UBPBhtnyfHk/TrE68S26LbI/AAAAAAAACi4/9xdlauT4lR8/s1600-h/IMG_3558-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_3558-1" border="0" height="391" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-3EqoNIXMTVo/TrE69E0fkbI/AAAAAAAACjA/9QEDTSWayS4/IMG_3558-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_3558-1" width="258" /></span></a><br />
<strong><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Supplies:</span></strong><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Glass vase(s) <br />Felt in 2 fall colors <br />Yarn in 1-2 contrasting fall colors</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Measure the circumference of your vase by wrapping the yarn around it and measuring the yarn with a ruler (or use a fabric measuring tape if you have one). Cut one color of felt in a rectangle that is as long as the circumference and about 5 inches wide, or whatever you’d like for you back layer. Cut the other piece of felt as long, but not as wide - mine is about 2 inches. OK, confession time. I didn’t measure. I pretty much eyeballed it. I’m lazy that way. :)</span><br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-ibkdQfVfJaw/TrE69v8V7wI/AAAAAAAACjI/fIfh7x2Uwqc/s1600-h/IMG_3563-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_3563-1" border="0" height="400" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-r8SFDGvL5ak/TrE6-CfRQlI/AAAAAAAACjQ/YinjNR4S8kc/IMG_3563-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_3563-1" width="264" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Using some tape (I said it was a simple craft) secure the back layer of felt around the vase. Place the second layer over it (which magically covers the tape). I didn’t tape this one as I didn’t want the tape to show. Lucky for me, felt sticks to felt pretty well!</span><br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-yjK0bVpi_d8/TrE6-_v98pI/AAAAAAAACjY/UyHpM5LJx8A/s1600-h/IMG_3566-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_3566-1" border="0" height="429" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-XnJfF0xmyCI/TrE6_T9UefI/AAAAAAAACjg/RmgenXhRCKk/IMG_3566-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_3566-1" width="283" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Cut some yarn 2-3 times longer than the circumference of the vases and wrap around the top layer of felt, securing the top layer of felt. If you’d like, you can add a charm or tie the bow in front. I liked it the clean look!</span><br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-L4en9BAtwrQ/TrE6_1R5RbI/AAAAAAAACjo/oKBRUe_-fR8/s1600-h/IMG_3569-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_3569-1" border="0" height="428" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Ibxv0p5eFmc/TrE7AbtznDI/AAAAAAAACjw/qEJugUz1cx8/IMG_3569-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_3569-1" width="282" /></span></a><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I filled mine with pinecones, but these would be great full of flowers, branches, willows, etc. I’m thinking of updating it in December with festive colored felt and some red/white bakers twine! </span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">We are traveling for Thanksgiving, so these will be enjoyed on my sofa table for now. But I think they’d be a charming and easy display for your Thanksgiving table. </span><br />

So I thought I’d share here today! I’ve added a little bit more detail for those of you that are not scrapbookers. Trust me, this is an easy project that you can do!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">When I throw baby or bridal showers, I love to give the guest of honor a mini album with photos from their special day. This doesn't have to be anything complicated. Just make sure to snap a photo of the guest of honor with each individual guest at the party and have each guest write a special message to her. Then using scraps from the other papercrafts for the day and some items from my stash, I put together a quick mini album of these photos and messages.</span><br />
<div align="center">
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-_omhYVRmleo/Tp-XBWDig1I/AAAAAAAACbc/MIAG6mC7AxM/s1600-h/HV101%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="HV101" border="0" height="353" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-PxrAFC-r1xs/Tp-XB3hf77I/AAAAAAAACbk/lAKY1qQkV8E/HV101_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="HV101" width="300" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">To start, I cut all the base papers I wanted to use to 6”x8”. It’s helpful to have papers that are double sided patterns or solid cardstocks so you can use both sides (and not have a blank white page to deal with). Then I used a piece of </span><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Grafix-Chipboard-11-Inch-Natural-25-Pack/dp/B00161W6L8/ref=sr_1_2?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1319081525&sr=1-2"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">chipboard</span></a><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> cut to 6”x8” for the back. I used adhesive to cover it in patterned papers on both sides.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">On this mini album, I used the invitation as a simple cover. Then I placed a clear transparency on the cover to protect it and bound the entire thing with my binding machine (I have </span><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Cinch-Book-Bindery-Tool-V2/dp/B005571KKC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1319081478&sr=8-2"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">the Cinch</span></a><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">). I find the </span><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Grafix-Craft-Plastic-Sheets-12-Inch/dp/B001K7N66W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319081504&sr=8-1"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Grafix Clear Craft Plastic</span></a><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> is a little sturdier than normal transparencies for this purpose. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="HV102" border="0" height="318" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-hKhj4Ti24S0/Tp-XC4NnMWI/AAAAAAAACb0/H8WUJaxcKgQ/HV102_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="HV102" width="463" /></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Inside I matched up the photos and notes from everyone. I included some more patterned paper accents throughout since I had lots of fun scraps from <a href="http://www.didsomeonesaypartysite.com/2011/09/school-theme-baby-shower-recap.html">my other projects</a> to play with. I also included the initial of each guest in a large letter </span><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss/181-7807277-6605417?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=american+crafts+thickers&x=0&y=0">Thickers</a></span><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I like to present this album in a special gift box. This way the guest of honor has a lovely memento box to keep all the cards and other items collected from the occasion. This time I ordered one of the </span><a href="http://www.papercoterie.com/product/memory-keepers/"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Memory Keepers from Paper Coterie</span></a><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">. I've also used decorated boxes I've found at big box craft stores.</span><br />
<div align="center">
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-o1OA3iZ8S84/Tp-XDl_jNsI/AAAAAAAACb8/nWEI01rD0Fo/s1600-h/IMG_3212%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_3212" border="0" height="310" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-w0PclRzKi6E/Tp-XEMlsh5I/AAAAAAAACcE/4_flAcGHOJ0/IMG_3212_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_3212" width="452" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I managed to get it out to her before she had the baby. The box has been a great place for her to collect mementos from the shower and his birth.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">If you are interested in making a custom box yourself, there is a fabulous </span><a href="http://www.mycraftchannel.com/Shows/Ella-Publishing/?omedia_id=312"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">video by Wendy and Angie of Ella Publishing (Episode 3)</span></a><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> that shows you how to repurpose an old book. That would be perfect for this project!!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">So I’m dying to know – have any of you ever made a mini album or scrapbook for an event like this? What are your tips?</span><br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-HRNJMavFEC0/Tp-XEZMLacI/AAAAAAAACcM/_0H_KzilHVU/s1600-h/image%25255B3%25255D.png"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="image" height="50" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/--nXGt82_EDs/Tp-XEkpTTTI/AAAAAAAACcQ/VwvmfI_3dq0/image_thumb%25255B1%25255D.png?imgmax=800" style="display: inline;" title="image" width="195" /></span></a><br />

Make sure to check out </span><a href="http://www.didsomeonesaypartysite.com/2011/10/craft-party-october.html"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">the amazing projects that were linked up</span></a><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> for some fall décor inspiration!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Curious what our craft party is all about? Basically, at the beginning of every month, we’ll announce a crafting theme. We’ll set up a linky party for your projects (new or old – if you’ve completed a project within the theme previously it still counts!). Then we all have the rest of the month to complete our projects. Throughout the month we’ll share some of our favorites via this blog, </span><a href="http://www.facebook.com/didsomeonesayparty"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">facebook</span></a><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> or </span><a href="http://www.twitter.com/someonesayparty"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">twitter</span></a><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">! We’ll also share what we made!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Since the holidays are just around the corner, we thought it would be fun to open this month’s craft party to any kind of handmade gifts. It can be gifts you’ve given in the past, or those you’ve made for this year’s giving!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Here are some rules to make sure everyone enjoys the party:</span><br />
<ol>
<li><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Please link to the specific post, not your blog homepage. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Please link only YOUR projects within the theme of the party. No Etsy shops or giveaways, please. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Please include our </span><a href="http://www.didsomeonesaypartysite.com/p/grab-button.html"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">linky button</span></a><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> in your post. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Feel free to link up an older post as long as it is within the theme. This is the wrap-up for our <a href="http://www.didsomeonesaypartysite.com/search/label/Craft%20Party">craft party</a> for October - we've had so much fun with it! Don't forget to <a href="http://www.didsomeonesaypartysite.com/2011/10/craft-party-october.html">link up</a> your parties this week. The <a href="http://www.didsomeonesaypartysite.com/2011/10/craft-party-october.html">linky party</a> will be open until November 7. Tomorrow we'll be announcing the theme for November!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Fall is my absolute favorite time of year! I decided this was the year to use my favorite autumn colors and make a wreath for my front door. This wreath is a quick project and requires little sewing skills (I know, because unlike G, I have mastered very few sewing skills!).</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">For this project, you need a 14” straw wreath form, a jelly roll of your favorite fabric or 15-2” wide strips of fabric (45” long) in coordinating patterns, some coordinating felt and thumbtacks.</span><br />
<div align="center">
<a href="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/DSSPFallWreath1.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="DSSP Fall Wreath 1" border="0" height="316" src="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/DSSPFallWreath1.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSSP Fall Wreath 1" width="450" /></span></a></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Start by folding your fabric strips in half. No need to iron!</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/DSSPFallWreath2.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="DSSP Fall Wreath 2" border="0" height="315" src="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/DSSPFallWreath2.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSSP Fall Wreath 2" width="450" /></span></a></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Then tack one end of your first strip on what will be the back of your wreath. I like to start with the selvedge.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="DSSP Fall Wreath 3" border="0" height="320" src="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/DSSPFallWreath3.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSSP Fall Wreath 3" width="450" /></span></div>
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Wrap that first strip around, staggering as you go. When you get to the end, don’t panic if then end is in the front of your wreath. Take your next strip, and starting in the back, lay it directly over the last band of the first strip so you can’t see it. See in the photo below how the pumpkin fabric is put directly over the last band of striped fabric.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="DSSP Fall Wreath 4" border="0" height="314" src="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/DSSPFallWreath4.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSSP Fall Wreath 4" width="450" /></span></div>
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">No need to tack it since the next wrap of fabric will secure it in place. This is also a good point to make sure you are staggering colors and color value. I like to alternate with darks and lights to get the most contrast. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Now keep wrapping your strips until you get to the last one. Fold over the <em>first</em> band of the <em>first</em> strip you put in so that you’ll have a spot for the edge of your last strip to hide.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="IMG_3524" border="0" height="310" src="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/IMG_3524.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSSP Fall Wreath 5" width="450" /></span></div>
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">After you wrap your last strip, simply fold this piece back and it will cover the edge of your last strip.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="IMG_3527" border="0" height="307" src="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/IMG_3527.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSSP Fall Wreath 6" width="450" /></span></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Secure that last piece with a tack. Your wreath form is done! Here’s what the back of mine looks like.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/IMG_3529.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_3529" border="0" height="312" src="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/IMG_3529.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSSP Fall Wreath 7" width="450" /></span></a></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Now the fun part – time to embellish! Start by sketching out a simple leaf pattern on some cardstock or cardboard and cutting it out. Then trace it on your felt pieces and cut them out. (P.S. I cut my leaf pattern on my Cricut and traced it with a Sharpie!) I used 6 on my wreath in various colors. I also made sure to vary the direction of the leaf by flipping my tracing template for a few.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/IMG_3530.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_3530" border="0" height="296" src="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/IMG_3530.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSSP Fall Wreath 8" width="450" /></span></a></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Don’t worry about the Sharpie marks on the edges. Those can easily be hidden by using the other side of the leaf as the front. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Then I selected some contrasting thread and sewed the main vein down the leaf free-hand. If you do not change the bobbin thread (I’m so lazy like that!), just make sure the side with the sharpie outline is down and the good side is up. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">This is where NOT sewing a good straight line comes in handy (because honestly, I can’t for the life of me sew straight!). Your leaf will look more authentic if you curve and angle your line a bit. You may decide to go all the way down the stem – I thought it looked better if I stopped before the stem.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/IMG_3531.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_3539" border="0" height="281" src="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/IMG_3531.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSSP Fall Wreath 9" width="410" /></span></a></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Then add more veins at about 1/3, 1/2 and 2/3 of the way down the leaf. If you start at one side, stop with your needle down at the center vein, lift your foot, and spin the leaf to sew the other way.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/IMG_3542.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_3542" border="0" height="291" src="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/IMG_3542.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSSP Fall Wreath 10" width="450" /></span></a></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Trim the threads and layout the leaves until you find a pattern you like. Then attach them. You could use hot glue but I was too impatient and used more tacks – I just made sure to hide them under the top leaves. On the top one I used some good double sided tape to secure. This way if I ever decide to use that cute fabric for another project, I have the option of pulling it off without a problem!</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/IMG_3544.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img alt="IMG_3544" border="0" height="294" src="http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/heatherlvo/IMG_3544.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSSP Fall Wreath 11" width="450" /></span></a></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Tie a ribbon for a hanger and you are set for fall!</span><br />
<div align="center">
