As G mentioned yesterday, we had a plethora of lemons to find uses for on our excursion. At a lunch date to plan our trip, G was telling me about her intention to put some plants her yard that produce edible flowers (she's quite an accomplished gardener if you didn't know!). Suddenly our brains were racing with ideas of how to blend the two for a perfect spring treat.
Of course our brains were also preoccupied with the concept that we'd be kid-free in a remote cabin for 30 hours with nowhere to go. Alcohol would only boost our creativity, right? So our pretty Candied Lemon Drop Martini was born.
Recipe after the jump!
We'll be honest, we both usually stick more to beer than cocktails (although I LOVE me a good margarita on the rocks!). But we know that the occasional girly get together deserves something a little more special - a little more pretty. (And I'll admit I have been known to enjoy a girly martini in my day!)
We started with a simple Lemon Drop Martini recipe from Delish. We stepped it up a notch with our special little additions and made some minor modification based on the liquor we already had on hand (what? You don't keep Citron vodka in your freezer too?).
Candied Lemon Drop Martini
Ingredients:
- 1 1/4 ounce(s) Citron Vodka
- 1/4 ounce(s) triple sec
- One small lemon
- 4-6 pieces of candied lemon
- Colored sugar and edible flowers (in matching colors)
1. Cut a slice of lemon and rub the fruit across the rim of your glass to moisten it so the sugar will stick.
2. Dip the rim of the glass in colored sugar to coat. We picked purple sugar to coordinate with our beautiful pansy garnish.
3. Place the candied lemon in the glass.
4. Combine the vodka, triple sec and the juice of the entire lemon in a shaker with ice. Shake well.
5. Strain drink into glass. Garnish with an edible flower.
Stay tuned for more of G's tips on using edible flowers soon!
This was one lovely cocktail. The candied lemon adds a nice sweet touch to the drink, as well as a special treat at the end. We think this pretty cocktail would be perfect for a get together with the ladies!
